Golden milk

Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk or a turmeric latte, is a traditional Indian drink made by warming milk with turmeric and other spices. The turmeric gives the drink its yellow or gold color, and the spices often have anti-inflammatory properties or contain antioxidants. Golden milk can be made with dairy or non-dairy milk, and can be served hot or iced.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of coconut milk (or plant based milk of your choice)

  • 1 1/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon or 1 whole cinnamon stick

  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 pinch ground black pepper

  • 1 tbsp of sweetener of choice (i.e. honey, maple syrup, monk fruit sweetener)

In a small saucepan, add coconut milk, ground turmeric, ground ginger, cinnamon, coconut oil, black pepper, and sweetener of choice.

  • Whisk to combine and warm over medium heat. Heat until hot to the touch but not boiling (approx. 4 minutes) whisking frequently.

  • Turn off heat and taste to adjust flavor. Add more sweetener to taste or more turmeric or ginger for intense spice + flavor.

  • Serve immediately, dividing between two glasses and leaving the cinnamon stick behind if used. Best when fresh, though leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave until hot.
