Golden milk
Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk or a turmeric latte, is a traditional Indian drink made by warming milk with turmeric and other spices. The turmeric gives the drink its yellow or gold color, and the spices often have anti-inflammatory properties or contain antioxidants. Golden milk can be made with dairy or non-dairy milk, and can be served hot or iced.
Ingredients
3 cups of coconut milk (or plant based milk of your choice)
1 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon or 1 whole cinnamon stick
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 tbsp of sweetener of choice (i.e. honey, maple syrup, monk fruit sweetener)
In a small saucepan, add coconut milk, ground turmeric, ground ginger, cinnamon, coconut oil, black pepper, and sweetener of choice.
Whisk to combine and warm over medium heat. Heat until hot to the touch but not boiling (approx. 4 minutes) whisking frequently.
Turn off heat and taste to adjust flavor. Add more sweetener to taste or more turmeric or ginger for intense spice + flavor.
Serve immediately, dividing between two glasses and leaving the cinnamon stick behind if used. Best when fresh, though leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave until hot.
